Accused charged with drug and weapon offences

SYDNEY — A Sydney Mines man is to return to provincial court Monday for a bail hearing on drug and weapon charges.

John Norman MacAskill, 49, is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking in marijuana, careless storage of a weapon, possession of a weapon without a license and two counts of breaching court orders. The offences are alleged to have occurred Thursday in Ingonish Beach. MacAskill made a brief court appearance Friday and was ordered remanded pending the outcome of his bail hearing.
