NORDMAN FILM
Artist launches 10 Bulls film at Cape Breton Centre for Craft and Design
Artist’s film launches June 21.
A film interpreting a local artist’s works will be launched at the Cape Breton Centre For Craft and Design on Wednesday, June 21, 6 p.m., in the main gallery.
Visual artist Onni Nordman is the subject of 10 Bulls, a short film that reinterprets Nordman’s series of paintings, 10 Bulls, which premiered in Munich in 2015.
Admission to the launch is free and refreshments will be available.
The large-scale oil paintings featured in 10 Bulls show Hoss Cartwright, from the TV series Bonanza, searching for a mysterious mountain lion. His trek takes him along the Zen trail depicted in the 12th century poem by Kakuan as the search for a lost bull. The film interpretation expands Nordman’s work into that medium and will delight, puzzle and no doubt inspire lots of conversation at this initial showing.
The film features an original score by Matthew Claener of Art Damage, editing by Madeline Yakimchuk’s Gryphon Media Productions and production by Paula Muise.
Nordman is a painter from South Bar, Cape Breton. Nordman’s work introduces a fresh approach to visual art that is not usually associated with Cape Breton. His work is unique, innovative and decidedly contemporary. It is linked to the great traditions of paintings while skillfully moving forward. Nordman has had shows in Germany, Finland and throughout Nova Scotia, and is headed to the United States in January 2018.
