Nine Cape Breton community projects will receive money from the provincial government, it was announced Friday.
Derek Mombourquette met with David Gabriel, president of the Baille Ard Trails Association at the Baille Ard Nature Trail, announcing the $17,000 grant for upgrades to the park.
“This project will certainly enhance the Baille Ard Trails experience,” Gabriel said in a press release.
He says the upgrades should begin as early as next week.
Mombourquette also met with eight other organizations to announce other grants for community upgrades.
The Cantley Village Recreation Association will receive $60,000 for their accessible multi-use green space and playground, Glace Bay Community Commons Society will receive $100,000 for their outdoor recreation facility,
Munroe Park will receive $47,300 for soccer facility improvements and Creignish Youth, Adult and Seniors Wellness Club will receive $36,000 for the restoration
of the ball field, tennis court and playground.
“The Creignish ball field and tennis court have been in the community for over 40 years,”
said Creignish restoration project co-chairs Lillian Berry and Smokey MacNeil. “It exists for the residents and visitors of the communities of Route 19 to use freely. We are extremely pleased to get this funding to secure these facilities for future generations.”
The New Waterford and District Community Centre is using their $32,000 for a new Zamboni, Cabot Snowmobile Club of Cape Breton is receiving $23,000 for a bridge repair, the Lighthouse of Cape Breton in Sydney will be upgrading the Undercurrent Youth Centre Space with $8,000 and the Dominion and District Recreation Complex Society will receive $25,000 for a new Zamboni and new exit doors.
“It is important that our communities remain connected and vibrant and provide facilities that help people make physical and community activity a part of their daily lives.” Mombourquette said.
A total of $348,000 is being put into these nine Cape Breton projects.
