HINES, Timothy Francis “Timmy”

We regret to announce the passing of Timothy Francis ‘Timmy ’Hines on July 5, 2017 at the Glace Bay Healthcare Complex.

Timmy was born on Feb. 15, 1936 in Reserve Mines. He was the son of the late Willie and Katie Hines.

Timmy was a miner with Devco from his twenties till his retirement.

Timmy is survived by sons, Dean (Betty Ann), Chris (Christine), Paul (Cece), Darren (Charlene), Blair (Lisa), Kenny (Denise) and daughter, Kerri Lou (Harry); also left to mourn are his sisters, Karen, Marilyn, Linda (Roy), Pasty (Louis), Audrey (Mark) and his brother, Johnny.

Timmy will be missed by his 26 grandchild­ren and nine great-grandchild­ren; many nieces and nephews, as well as his long- time friend, Helen Young.

Besides his parents, Timmy was predecease­d by his wife, Florence McEachern-Hines; son, Jerry; sisters, Rita and Donn; brother, Ronnie as well as his birth mother, Nelly.

Timmy loved sports, hockey and baseball. He was a member of the 1955/56 Glace Bay Cinderella Miners who won the league, Provincial and Maritime junior championsh­ip. He then played senior hockey in Newfoundla­nd in the 1950’s with the Buckanns Miners. He also played with the Old-timer’s Hockey League. Timmy was scouted in his early hockey years by an NHL farm team. Timmy was also inducted into the Glace Bay Hall of Fame as a member of the Glace Bay Cinderella Miners.

He played softball with the Main Street, Table Head and Caledonia Aces in the 1950’s. Timmy and Florence were founding members of The Vince Ryan Memorial Hockey Tournament and volunteere­d yearly. Timmy was an avid golfer and spent many years at The Lingan Golf and Country Club as a player, member and Marshall. He was also a life member of the Reserve Mines Pensioner’s Club. He also played in the Men’s Club Dart League. The family would like to thank Dr. Ley and the staff of the 3rd Floor of the Glace Bay Hospital for all their care.

Funeral arrangemen­ts are under the direction of T.J. Tracey Funeral Home.

Visitation for Timmy will be Sunday, July 9th from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.

Funeral celebratio­n will be held Monday, July 10th at 11 a.m. in the T.J. Tracey Funeral Home Chapel, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Interment to follow at St. Josephs Cemetery, MacLeods Rd.
