Giving thanks where it’s due
They bring curb appeal to Membertou
Every community has its unsung heroes who do tremendous work while receiving little-to-no recognition.
My community has them, your community has them; we all know a person, or a group like this.
Growing up, I was taught to always give credit and thanks where they are due. Thanks comes easy; we offer it when we are the recipient of a gift or a heartfelt gesture, even if it’s a little thing.
Credit, I find, is something a little different; often, I notice, that great ideas or contributions may go unnoticed (by some, not all). Or, it’s easier to take the credit for a brilliant idea, rather than give it.
I would like to dedicate this edition of MemberNews to a small, hardworking group who are out and about in our community. They deserve our thank you. They deserve this acknowledgement for the work they have done over the spring and summer.
This particular group is the Membertou Landscaping crew.
More specifically, they are Amanda Christmas, Charlene Christmas, Clifford “Double C” Copage, Kale Gould, Anna Joy Paul, Annie Madelaine Doucette, Paula Isaac, Jay Sanipas and Malori Paul.
Every year, as soon as the weather gets nice, the landscapers are called into duty to give our community its annual aesthetic makeover. Whether it is rain or shine, they are up bright and early and ready to go.
Membertou is a beautiful community. It is my beautiful community, and already it is an aesthetically pleasing neighbourhood. I do not mean just the business park area, I mean the actual community.
As lovely as it is, the landscapers step it up a notch, and enhance its natural beauty.
Through spring and summer, the crews are mowing the fields and lawns, whipper-snipping away the weeds, planting and replanting the flower beds at our public buildings, and ensure that Membertou Memorial Gardens (where we bury our friends and family) lives up to its name. They also help our elders and disabled community members with their homes and gardens.
Starting this week, the crew received some new recruits to aid with the efforts. Membertou’s summer students started work this week, and they are already digging in the dirt – literally, I may add.
Actually, 20 years ago, many of us in Membertou used to do these very same jobs when we were summer students. It’s refreshing to see the younger generation take up the same duties that we once did, and that the previous generation had done before we had even started up our first lawnmowers.
If you are ever in Membertou, just cruising or passing through, and if you see our landscapers doing their thing, treat them to a cup of coffee or bottle of water. Now I think I’ll follow my own advice and do just that.
To each and every one of the Membertou Landscaping team, I would like to offer you my sincere thank you, and recognize you for the work you all do for our community, each and every year.
Thank you for enhancing the natural beauty of our alreadylovely community.
