It is with deep sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Edward ‘Eddie’ Antle on Saturday, June 24, 2017, at Taigh Na Mara, Glace Bay.

Eddie was the son of the late Raymond and Catherine (Weeks) Antle of Whitney Pier where he was born and grew up in his younger years.

Eddie was a WWII veteran and married his war bride, Doris Hickson of Newcastle, England. After the war, they returned to Cape Breton and together they raised their children in Sydney Forks, where Eddie spent many happy years.

Eddie was a hard worker and retired as a steel worker at the end of his working career. He loved horses and became a horseman, owning and training horses. He was an avid gardener. He took pride in gardening. Eddie will be remembered by family and friends for being very capable and strongwill­ed.

Eddie is survived by his daughter, Sandra Anderson (the late Robert) of Glace Bay; son, John of BC; grandchild­ren, Vicki Jean, Todd, Mike, Otto, Kaitlyn, Alex, Andrew, Taylor, and one great-grandchild, Audrey. Eddie is also survived by his brother and friend, Raymond ‘Junior’ Antle (Kay), as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Eddie was predecease­d by his wife, Doris; son, Donald and siblings, Mary Bennet (Greg), Anastasia Tell (Edward), Loretta Jamieson (Hoot), Gordon and James.

Visitation and memorial service to celebrate the life of Edward ‘Eddie’ Antle will be held in Pier Community Funeral Home, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Thursday, July 20, 2017. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 1-2 p.m. with service to follow at 2 p.m. in the All Faith Chapel with Fr. Paul Murphy officiatin­g. Light refreshmen­ts will be served in the reception area following the service. Interment will take place in Resurrecti­on Cemetery, Sydney Forks.

Donations in memory of Eddie may be made to Taigh Na Mara, Holy Redeemer Building Fund or charity of one’s choice.

Funeral arrangemen­ts are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
