What a difference

Roadwork makes drive much more pleasant

- Ann Marie Yorke

What a summer. The temperatures are climbing, the sun is out and scenery around the Bras d’Or Lake is simply amazing.

The roadwork from Lynches River to St. Peter’s is almost complete, making the Bras d’Or Scenic Drive a dream to drive on. And the completion of the new two-lane bridge in St. Peter’s offers such access, getting people in and out of the village without the long line-ups of traffic that had existed with the old one lane bridge.

Now we only have to stop at the bridge if a boat is coming through. For one boat, according to the official count, from opening the bridge to the passing of the boat and to the closing of the bridge takes 8 minutes and 14 seconds; not bad and then traffic continues as usual. Some of what has changed in the area I’ll miss, but the addition of a two-lane bridge is godsend.

Visitors to the area are continuing to climb with each day, and so are the events taking place in the area. Guests are pleased at the amount of activities

and music that they are able to enjoy and take part in. One of the favorite highlights for visitors this week was the Lobster Boat Tour Experience offered free of charge for a onehour boat tour and information session on lobster fishing.

Coming this week, visitors to Richmond will be able to experience a traditional powwow at Chapel Island from July 21 to

23. Experience Native dancers and drummers as they take part in the event.

Another popular summer event will take place on July 22 with the 22nd Annual Codstock Outdoor Music Festival at LeNoir Landing in Arichat, from 8 p.m. until 2 a.m. Tickets are $13 advance and $15 at the door. Opening the show will be Exit 46, followed by the

headlining band Merimac. This event is always a crowd pleaser, so come on down and join in the fun.

Then on Sunday, July 23, bring the whole family out to LeNoir Landing for a Family Fun Fest. This event will be jam packed with live entertainment, a silent auction, barbecue, kid’s games and more. Admission is a food bank donation.

For more information and to purchase tickets, contact the DIMA office by calling 902-2261918. Mark the dates on your calendar.
