It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of Austin George Kendall, age 67, on Thursday, July 20, 2017 in Baddeck.

Born in North Sydney, he was the son of the late George and Susan (Best) Kendall.

Austin spent most of his life on the sea. He fished for many years with his father, worked aboard several Great Lake boats and finally, with Marine Atlantic in North Sydney, as a 1st mate, retiring in 2007 after 35 years of service.

Austin was an avid golfer and could be spotted regularly at Seaview Golf and Country Club. He and his partner Helen, enjoyed many trips to Florida playing golf and attending parties hosted by fellow Capers.

Austin was a proud father, grandfathe­r and brother who enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by his partner, Helen Day; his two sons, Michael (Kerry) of Mount Uniacke, Jason of North Sydney, and his two grandsons, Owen and Cameron. He is also survived by his sisters, Linda (Tom) Burke of Dartmouth, Alice Pearcey of Ontario; his brother, Hubert (Marlene) Kendall in Newfoundla­nd; many special nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Austin was predecease­d by his wife, Patricia (Bailey) Kendall.

There will be no visitation by request. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, from St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney, with Rev. Julio Martin officiatin­g. Burial will follow in Lakeside Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the NS Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Funeral arrangemen­ts are under the care and direction of the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
