Millicent Irene Clare (Richardson) passed away at the Cove Guest Home, Sydney on Tuesday, July 25, 2017.

Irene was born in Broadview, Saskatchew­an on January 20, 1922.

She was predecease­d by her husband, Gerald; parents, Ellen and Charles Richardson; sister, Dorothy; brothers, Bruce, George and Bill.

Irene is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Kirby) Applin, Westmount; son, Michael (Madeleine Wilson), Almonte, Ont; grandchild­ren, Tracy Applin, Terry Applin, Laura MacIsaac (Clare) and Brian Clare; five great-grandchild­ren, and many nieces and nephews.

Irene spent many of her early years in Halifax, where she had fond memories of growing up. After her father retired from the RCMP, the family moved to Sydney. On April 29, 1942, she married Gerald. Irene had close friendship­s with many people because of her caring ways. She had a special relationsh­ip with her niece, Joy Clare, whom she loved dearly.

Thank you to everyone at the Cove Guest Home for their care and compassion. Special thanks to her caregivers, Debbie Bonnar and Edie Smith, who became more than caregivers to Irene.

Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens on Friday, July 28 at 10 a.m., with Archdeacon Brenda Drake officiatin­g.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cove Guest Home.
