‘It’s just really nice to watch’

Main Street comes alive during annual Louisbourg Street Dance.

On Saturday evening, people in Louisbourg got the chance to dance in the middle of the street.

The fourth annual Louisbourg Street Dance was organized by the Louisbourg and Area Celebration Society. The event featured a number of events for people of all ages, including a live band, balloon animals and face-painting.

Children attending the street dance all liked different things the best.

“I like that you get to run on the roads,” said Joseph Barnstable, who added “the balloons are cool.”

Kallum MacDougall said he liked all of the free events.

“These free activities are fun.”

“The face-painting is fun,” said Sara Pope, who had her face painted like a zombie.

“I like that I can hang out with my friends,” said Haivyn Fortune.

There were also other events for kids like a “fish pond” where children fished for free bags of

chips and a popcorn giveaway.

For the adults, the band Flashpoint played so people could dance on Louisbourg’s Main Street, which was blocked off from traffic in front of the town hall.

Lloydette MacDonald, a member of the Louisbourg and Area Celebration Society, and one of the organizers of the event said the dance is always a hit with the community, adding she enjoyed the dancing.

“When you literally see the people dancing in the streets, it’s great. We have a lot of tourists that come here, too — it’s not just the local community — but it’s pretty nice when you close off the street. It’s just really nice to watch,” said MacDonald.

The Louisbourg Street Dance started at 8 p.m. on Saturday and wrapped up at 11 p.m.
