NextGen Leadership Society wants young profession­als to join board

A group devoted to helping young profession­als make their mark is looking for people to join their board of directors.

The NextGen Leadership Society is releasing an open call for nomination­s for young profession­als ages 18-40 to join their board. Nomination­s are open to young profession­als who want to increase the participat­ion of young people in the advancemen­t of the local economy and create a more vibrant place to live.

“Cape Breton’s competitiv­e edge in our current economic climate relies on having a vast supply of talented and persistent young people who are engaged and passionate about starting their own businesses, advocating for representa­tion in their community, and supporting one another’s success,” said Dawn Beaton, chair of the NextGen Leadership Society board of directors. “These skilled young people are crucial to the various economic sectors that will help drive our island’s economy for years to come. NextGen is looking for those tenacious leaders islandwide to become members of our board and help us move into a new era of longevity and results.”

Board members are expected to follow the four NextGen pillars: connect; create; engage; and inform, when actively working to providing opportunit­ies for youth in an effort to create growth within local communitie­s. Board members must also attempt to be present at NextGen events and conference­s over the course of the year. Board members must also be an involved team member on the board of directors for at least three years, be prepared to attend monthly board meetings, and take part in an annual strategic planning session.

The NextGen Cape Breton board of directors governance committee requests that all nomination­s must be submitted online. A digital nomination form can be found on their website at www.cbnextgen.com/the-nextgen-team.html, and can be sent by email to nextgencb@gmail.com.

Deadline for nomination­s is Aug. 25.
