It is with great sad­ness that we, the fam­ily, an­nounce the pass­ing of Ger­ald ‘Taits’ Springall on July 29, 2017 at the Cape Bre­ton Re­gional Hospi­tal sur­rounded by his lov­ing fam­ily. Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late John and Brid­get (Walsh) Springall.

Tait’s first job was work­ing in No. 16 mine for a num­ber of years be­fore mov­ing to On­tario where he, his wife and their daugh­ter Mon­ica lived for 11 years. Af­ter re­turn­ing home in 1974, he be­came a mem­ber of the New Waterford Po­lice De­part­ment where he worked un­til his re­tire­ment in the late 80’s. He loved all sports and af­ter mov­ing home from On­tario to New Waterford, he be­came the coach of the Hi-Fi Hawks Fast­ball D Base­ball team, coach­ing them to two con­sec­u­tive cham­pi­onship wins 1976-1977. He made many long-term re­la­tion­ships with his ball play­ers as they were his good friends.

He is sur­vived by his lov­ing wife, Bar­bara Ann; daugh­ters, Mon­ica (Rob­bie) and Geral­dine (Rus­sell); sis­ters, Edna (Angie), Eva (Stan) and She­lia; brother, Vic­tor (Theresa); two grand­chil­dren, Joshua and Matthew; as well as many nieces and neph­ews.

Cre­ma­tion has taken place. Visi­ta­tion will be held on Thurs­day, Au­gust 3, 2017 from 6-9 p.m. Burial will take on Fri­day, Au­gust 4, 2017 at 11 a.m. in Mount Carmel Ceme­tery with Deacon Leo Penny of­fi­ci­at­ing. Funeral ar­range­ments are un­der the di­rec­tion of McLel­lan Broth­ers Funeral Home, 3183 Plum­mer Ave., New Waterford, 902-862-7500.
