Richard passed away peace­fully sur­rounded by his fam­ily and loved ones on July 30, 2017 at the Cape Bre­ton Re­gional Hos­pi­tal, Sydney, Nova Sco­tia.

Born May 3, 1939 he was the son of the late Wil­liam and Rita Wall.

Richard was a veteran who served over 50 years in the mil­i­tary. He served over­seas with the Black Watch 1st Bat­tal­ion un­til it dis­banded. He con­tin­ued his mil­i­tary ca­reer in Calgary as a war­rant of­fi­cer un­til his re­tire­ment.

The Mil­i­tary was his life and he was filled with pride when­ever he talked about his life in the mil­i­tary fam­ily. He was a mem­ber of the Royal Cana­dian Le­gion Branch 138 and was very pas­sion­ate about the Poppy Cam­paign.

Richard is sur­vived by his daugh­ters, Suzanne (Bill) Walsh, Kentville and Rita Wall (Calgary); four grand­chil­dren, Zack and Sofie (Walsh), Ja­son and Justin Gil­lies; sis­ters, Sr. Mary Ter­rance, West Vir­gina, Joan (Ray­mond) Boudreau, Brenda (John), Bos­ton, Mary Gib­son, Kentville and Pamela (Austin) Lan­glois; broth­ers, Lorne (San­dra), Clyde River, John (Bev­erly) Wall, Toronto, Billy (Candice), BC and Earl (Dar­lene), Sydney. He is also sur­vived by many nieces and neph­ews.

Be­sides his par­ents he was pre­de­ceased by his step-fa­ther, Robert Samp­son; brother, Char­lie, Billy (Lucy), and sis­ter, Shirley (Tommy).

The fam­ily would like to thank the staff of 4A and CCU at the Cape Bre­ton Re­gional Hos­pi­tal, Doc­tor Paul Macdon­ald, Doc­tor Archibald and Doc­tor Naqvi.

Vis­i­ta­tion will be Thurs­day, Au­gust 3, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Funeral ser­vice Fri­day, Au­gust 4, 2017 at 11 a.m., both in the SW Chant and Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexan­dra St., Sydney. Rev Shel­don Chant of­fi­ci­at­ing. Re­cep­tion to fol­low at the Royal Cana­dian Le­gion Branch 138.
