NUGENT, Carmel

New Waterford / Sydney

-

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother, wife, sister, aunt and friend, Carmel Michaeleen Nugent, on April 12, 2017 surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Sydney on June 17, 1947, Carmel was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary (MacLean) MacNeil.

In her younger years, Carmel followed her heart and became a CNA and worked at The New Waterford, City and St. Rita’s hospitals. She was a loving and caring person who enjoyed the simple things in life, like being independent and able to walk. It was a sad time when MS robbed her of this ability. Carmel loved her grandchildren very much and was so proud of all of them.

Carmel is survived by her husband, Francis; children, Carmel (Teddy), Kevin (Natasha) and Paul (Lisa); seven grandchildren and one special great-grandson. She is also survived by her siblings, Wilfred, Pius, James, Ann Marie, Claire and Bernadette.

Besides her parents, Carmel was predeceased by brothers, Jackie, Francis and Gregory and her sister, Theresa.

There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford.

A funeral mass will be held at Saint Theresa’s Church in Sydney on August 4, 2017 at 11 a.m. with Father Dennis Lamey officiating. Burial will be in Saint Theresa’s Cemetery, Sydney, with a luncheon to follow at St. Leonard’s Parish Hall on Convent Street, New Waterford.

For those who wish, donations may be made to the MS Society.

Special thank you to all the doctors and nursing staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for their compassion and kindness shown to our mom during her stay.

Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca.
