STRICKLAND, Eleanor M. RN
is with heartfelt sadness we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Eleanor Marie Strickland, age 82, on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in New Waterford on January 30, 1935, she was the daughter of the late John Vincent and Mary Ann (Connors) Wilson. Eleanor was a graduate of St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing and worked as a registered nurse at the Northside General Hospital and Harbouview Hospital until her retirement. She was active in her high school years on the girls basketball team and was good enough to make the team while still in Junior High. She enjoyed bowling and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She was a member of St. Joseph Church, North Sydney.
Eleanor is survived by her sons, Jack (Sally) Bragg, Dartmouth, Jim Bragg, Calgary, Paul (Twila) Bragg, Debert and Billy Strickland, British Columbia; her daughter, Carmel Bragg (Allan MacDougall), North Sydney; her eight grandchildren, Jessie, Dylan, Emma, Dawn Marie, Brittany, Amanda, Brandon and Tanner; her seven great-grandchildren, including the newest great-grandson, Kory, and also a number of nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Byron and Henry Wilson, and sisters, Carmel Wilson and Thelma MacEachern.
The family would like to thank Dr. John Kirkpatrick, Dr. Kevin Orrell, Dr. Victor Espinal, the OR nursing staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and staff of Miners Memorial Manor.
Visitation for Eleanor will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Friday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. Joseph Church with Rev. Patrick O’Neill officiating. Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Sydney.
