It is with great sad­ness that we an­nounce the pass­ing of Emma Freeborne on Tues­day, Au­gust 8, 2017. Emma passed peace­fully at the North­side Gen­eral Hos­pi­tal af­ter a lengthy ill­ness at the age of 74.

Emma was born on May 5, 1943 in Grand Bank, New­found­land, the daugh­ter of the late Bert and Edith (Hick­man) Cum­ben.

Emma is sur­vived by her chil­dren, Kim (Wayne) Strick­land, Sherry (Jimmy) Brown, Wade (Pam) Freeborne and Amanda (Jeff) Lav­ery, as well as her sis­ter, Effie (Tom) King, and broth­ers, Jack (Frances) Cum­ben and Harold (Ann) Cum­ben. Emma is also sur­vived by her sis­terin-law, Stella Cum­ben, as well as many nieces and neph­ews. Emma’s great­est joy was her 11 grand­chil­dren who she loved and adored.

Emma was pre­de­ceased by her daugh­ter, Tracy (Freeborne) Wil­liams; sis­ter, Vi­o­let Cum­ben, and brother, Harry Cum­ben.

The fam­ily of Emma would like to thank the staff of 4D at the Cape Breton Re­gional Hos­pi­tal and 5 West of the North­side Gen­eral Hos­pi­tal for the kind­ness and com­pas­sion shown to both Emma and her loved ones dur­ing a dif­fi­cult time.

In ac­cor­dance with Emma’s wishes there will be no vis­i­ta­tion. A fu­neral ser­vice will be held Satur­day at 2 p.m. at St. John the Bap­tist Angli­can Church, North Syd­ney, with Rev. Julio Martin of­fi­ci­at­ing.

Me­mo­rial do­na­tions may be made to NS Heart and Stroke Foun­da­tion, Cape Breton Re­gional Hos­pi­tal Foun­da­tion or any char­ity.

Fu­neral ar­range­ments are un­der the care and di­rec­tion of the W.J. Doo­ley Fu­neral Home, 107 Pleas­ant St., North Syd­ney.
