SID­NEY, Wil­liam ‘Bill’ Alexan­der

Wil­liam A. Sid­ney, 86, of Syd­ney passed away Wed­nes­day, Au­gust 9, 2017 at the Cape Breton Re­gional Hos­pi­tal, Syd­ney.

Born in Hamil­ton, On­tario, he was the son of the late Leonard and Edna (Cro­cock) Sid­ney.

Bill was a noted lo­cal busi­ness­man, owner of Mod­ern Alu­minum, Sid­ney Jewellers and Venice Pizze­ria.

He was very ac­tive in lo­cal af­fairs, es­pe­cially sports. He was past pres­i­dent of CB Metros, the first pres­i­dent of the CB Scream­ing Ea­gles and part owner of the Glace Bay Cin­derella Min­ers in the 1950’s. He was an avid golfer, direc­tor of Lin­gan Golf Club. Bill was in­ducted into the CB Sports Hall of Fame twice. He loved the Blue Jays and any other sport be­ing tele­vised.

Bill was past pres­i­dent of Syd­ney Ki­wa­nis Club and a mem­ber of the Ma­sonic Lodge. He was ac­tive be­hind the scene in civic pol­i­tics. His ex­per­tise in all ar­eas of life in CB will be missed.

Bill leaves be­hind his wife, Irma; daugh­ter, Linda (Dan) Camp­bell, Hal­i­fax; sons, Bill (Carol Ann), Syd­ney, Dar­rell, Syd­ney, Robert (Krista), Hal­i­fax and Alan, at home; sis­ter, Eleanor (Leo) Foss, Ont., and brother, Leonard (Myrt), Do­min­ion; sis­ter-in-law, Dorothy, NF; 13 grand­chil­dren and 19 great grand­chil­dren.

Bill was pre­de­ceased by a brother, Jack.

Vis­i­ta­tion will be held Satur­day Au­gust 12, 2017 from 1-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Syd­ney Me­mo­rial Chapel. Fu­neral ser­vice will take place Sun­day at 2 p.m. at the United Her­itage Church, with Rev. Rose­mary Godin of­fi­ci­at­ing. In­ter­ment in For­est Haven Me­mo­rial Gar­dens.
