It is with deepest sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved son, Nathan Robert Bijl, age 20, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney on September 1, 2017 after a lengthy and courageous battle with AML.

Born August 15, 1997, Nathan was the son of Pamela (Wynn) and Stan Bijl, and the brother of Matthew and Grace. Nathan graduated with honours from Riverview Rural High School in 2016 while receiving treatment.

He will be greatly missed by his Oma, Josie Bijl, Calgary and his grandparents, Norma Wynn, and Millard (Sharon) Wynn, of Sydney. He leaves behind his aunts, Debbie MacQueen and Shauna Wynn, of Sydney and Clementine Bijl, Calgary; uncles, Eric (Barb) Wynn, Sydney, Chris (Vonda) Bijl, Calgary and his numerous cousins, along with family in Holland. He is also survived by his two best friends, Christian Fraser and family; as well as Callum Pickles and family.

Nathan faced his battle with cancer in the same manner in which he lived his life, with courage, strength, dignity, compassion for others and always with a sense of humour.

In lieu of flowers, Nathan has requested that any donations be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Centre Patient Care Fund.

A celebration of Nathan’s life will take place Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the S.W. Chant and Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney in the funeral home Chapel, Rev.
