The tradition continues
87th annual Victoria County Fair on Saturday
An annual event that brings residents of Victoria County together each year will take place this weekend in Big Baddeck.
The 87th annual Victoria County Fair will take place on Saturday at the Baddeck Forks Community Hall, beginning at 12 p.m.
The one-day fair will showcase 4-H competitions and demonstrations, children activities, exhibits, a fashion show, auction and lunch throughout the afternoon.
“We’re celebrating the 87th annual fair, but we’re also celebrating Canada’s 150th birthday, so we’re trying to have a red and white theme,” said Pam MacKay, a volunteer with the fair. “It’s the farmers exhibition, but we don’t have rides or a midway, it’s just all about exhibits and food.”
MacKay, who began volunteering with the fair six years ago, said the 4-H exhibits are a huge part of the county fair.
“People look forward to the county fair every year — it gives people the chance to visit with neighbours,” she said. “We have two big tents set up, so rain or shine, we have the fair.”
Along with participating in the fair, 4-H donates a live turkey to be auctioned off and delivered to the winner at Christmas in an attempt to raise money for the community hall.
Exhibits for the county fair can be dropped off from 6-9 p.m. today. Judging will take place Saturday morning, prior to public viewing.
