Highland Village hosting Pioneer Day

IONA — Highland Village will host a special Pioneer Day celebration today.

The event, which celebrates Gaelic traditions and activities of the early settlers to Cape Breton, will take place from 12-5 p.m. at Highland Village in Iona.

The day will be marked by activity across the 43-acre site. There will be flax processing, candle and soap-making demonstrations taking place throughout the day.

Other events will include children’s games, horseshoes, ironwork and special carding mill demonstrations.
