Sydney Mines woman sent to jail
SYDNEY — A 58-year-old Sydney Mines woman has been sentenced to complete a 30-month federal prison sentence on charges including armed robbery. Linda Darlene MacKinnon of King Street pleaded guilty to armed robbery, forcible entry and assault. Other offences were withdrawn. She was charged in connection with an incident May 18 when a resident of an apartment building on King Street reported a woman had come to the door, brandished a knife and demanded money. A short time later, police received another call of an armed robbery at a business on Main Street and arrested a female suspect found running up King Street with a knife.
In addition to the jail sentence, MacKinnon is to pay a total of $105 in restitution, is banned from possessing firearms for 10 years and was ordered to submit a DNA sample to the national registry.
