Plea date set for Little Narrows woman on animal cruelty charges

HALIFAX — A 21-year-old Little Narrows woman is to return to provincial court next week to enter pleas on two charges relating to animal cruelty.

Bethany MacLean is charged with causing unnecessary suffering to an animal and with failing to provide suitable and adequate food, water and shelter.

The charge was filed after MacLean was alleged to have left a dog inside of a vehicle for an undetermined amount of time and failing to provide the dog with adequate food and water.

Officials with the provincial SPCA were called to the scene by Halifax Regional Police after a dead dog was removed from a vehicle in a parkade in Halifax earlier this year. The remains were sent to pathology for necropsy. MacLean is now scheduled to enter pleas to the charges Sept. 21.
