Members of the Cosmetology Association of Nova Scotia met at the Membertou Trade and Convention Centre for the annual general meeting this weekend.

More than 100 people were in attendance on Saturday as cosmetologists displayed their best work.

The event showcased a number of different hair and makeup styles and featured a competition called “Fearless.”

During the show, the artists were able to draw inspiration from ancient cultures like Viking era warriors, the Roman Empire and Asian dynasties.

Nicole Smith, who was competing, said although it takes a lot of time, she enjoyed turning her model, Jenna Gentremont, into an Egyptian goddess.

“It’s so great creating something fun and special — fantasy-wise,” said Smith.

Gentremont said she didn’t mind the preparation or long hours it took for her Egyptian makeup to be completed. She added that the competition was a great way to see the talent of Nova Scotia’s cosmetologists.

“The creativity is amazing, it’s awesome to see what everyone can do,” said Gentremont. “It’s just fun.”

There were several competitions taking place during the evening with cash prizes for the winners.

There were two different competitions taking place on Saturday — the total look competition and the nail art competition. Winners of the categories walked away with $2,000 in the total look competition and $1,000 in the nail art competition.
