YOUNG (MACASKILL), Wanda Blanche

-

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our cherished mother, sister and friend, Wanda Blanche Young of Sydney following a brief illness. Wanda passed away surrounded by her family in the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Saturday, September 16, 2017.

Born in Sydney Mines on October 26, 1951, Wanda was the daughter of the late Angus Kenneth and Eliza Jane (Butts) MacAskill of Millville.

After raising her three children in Millville where she grew up, she later moved to Sydney so that she could be closer to her employer, Maritect Investigations where she was employed as monitoring supervisor.

Wanda was known for her quick wit and gentle demeanor. She enjoyed crafting, sewing, baking, cooking and always took time out for her weekly game of TV Bingo!

Family gatherings were very important to her and she always looked forward to seeing everyone. She always enjoyed a good cup of tea and a chat and enjoyed catching up with everyone. Wanda brightened the lives of many and always had a way of making you feel like you were special to her. She cared for her little dog Tazz and the cat Charlie… Tazz will miss those little drives in the sunfire!

Wanda is survived by her cherished children, Paul Vincent, Mill Creek, Spencer Lawrence ‘Lonnie’ (Wendy), Ontario and Katherine Kerri ‘Katie’ (Ian), South Bar. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Emily, Hannah and Ester, all of Millville.

Coming from a family of 13, Wanda is survived by seven brothers, Roddie (Margie), St. Catherine’s, Danny (Adrianna), Dartmouth, Nayland (Debby), Millville, Murray (Jeannette), Lloydminster, Paul, Millville, Glenn (Ginette), Millville and Terry (Corinna), North Sydney, as well as three sisters, Corrine Stubbert (Hector), Melinda Mark (Jackie) and Carrie (Tom), all of Millville. She will be missed by her many nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by brothers-in-law, Richard Ahle and Lorne ‘Bud’ Edmunds.

She is predeceased by Sisters, Mary Ahle and Sylvia Edmunds, and sister-in-law, Dawn MacAskill.
