Ryan Kennedy has turned to police and the public for assistance after his 1985 Trans Am vehicle was damaged in a recent act of vandalism.

The car suffered extensive damage while parked in his Ashby Road driveway. And he’s got it all on video. On camera are two men going through considerable effort to slash tires, kick mirrors off the car and scratch its paint before completing their nefarious task by tossing a boulder through its windshield.

“The few little dings and dents — it is what it is,” Kennedy said.

“It’s the safety factor of these people coming to my house. They are on video doing this.”

The vandalism took place on Sept. 12, first at 9:15 p.m. and then again around 9:30 p.m.

“They got spooked off and they came back,” he said. “When they came back up the street, they came up with the boulder and put the windshield out.”

Damage to the car is estimated at thousands of dollars but he is insured.

It’s the safety of his home, he reiterated, and not the damage to the car that’s the main factor in him going public with the video from that night.

When first posted to Facebook, he said, the video was seen by more than 9,000 people in the four hours alone.

Viewers expressed concern and outrage but did not offer any tips.

Kennedy has an idea of who the culprits might be and has shared that information with the Cape Breton Regional Police Service.

Kennedy said that a police investigation is continuing, though he is not happy that they haven’t taken fingerprints from the car or tried to obtain DNA information from a cigarette butt found at the scene.

Though disappointed by the incident, he plans to fix the car.

Police did not immediately respond to a request for information.
