A Sydney company has announced it has obtained a company-level certification based on a standard for the aircraft, space and defence industry, allowing it to work with more aerospace companies.

Protocase, which manufactures custom sheet metal electronic enclosures, mounting hardware and other components, recently became AS9100D certified, as administered by SAE International As a result, Protocase is planning a significant expansion of its CNC machining division.

“This is a significant milestone for our team. We already work with seven out of the 10 top aerospace companies as a custom manufacturer, but certain types of work require AS9100D certification,” Protocase cofounder and president Steve Lilley said in a news release.

To celebrate the certification, the company will host a tour of its newest building, which will include a demonstration of its CNC machining division today at 10:30 a.m. at Protocase Building 3, located at 521 Prince St. in Sydney.

AS9100D standardizes quality management system requirements and can be used by organizations around the world, to provide improved quality, cost, and delivery performance of aerospace products.

“We want to educate about what we do here at Protocase and where we plan to go in the future,” says Doug Milburn, Protocase co-founder and vicepresident. “Right now, we’re starting to hire new people to work within our CNC division, as we plan a significant expansion.”

Protocase first began custom manufacturing metal enclosures, panels, components and parts in 2001. The company’s CNC machining division launched in 2015. Protocase currently has more than 12,000 customers around the world.

Protocase also now also meets the quality management standards for ISO 9001:2015.
