YOUNG, Harold Francis

-

It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Harold Francis Young, 76, of New Victoria on September 19, 2017 at home.

Born in New Waterford, he was a son of the late Harold and Helen (MacEachern) Young.

Harold was a coal miner in the area for over 30 years. He was also a heavy duty mechanic at Chrysler in Mississauga, Ont., for several years; at one time, their head mechanic. Harold was a member of the former Cape Breton Highlanders, currently the Cape Breton Freewheeler Motorcycle Association where he was a founding member of the annual Toy Run. He truly enjoyed driving his motorcycle and rebuilding classic cars; two of his favourite accomplishments being his ‘66 Chrysler and ‘79 Chev. Harold also enjoyed spending time with family and friends and always loved his Sunday drives with wife, Debbie. He would always help those in need regardless if he knew the person. Harold will be missed by all.

Surviving are wife, Debbie; children, Ryan Proctor, Adam Young, both at home, Amy Williams, Port Hawkesbury, Helen (Kevin) Gillis, Alberta, Donnie (Norma) Young, New Victoria and Harold ‘Poko’ Young, Halifax; brother, Robert Young, Truro; many nieces and nephews, including special niece and nephew, Wendy and Noel; best friend, Lorne Campbell, New Victoria; six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, Harold was predeceased by a sister, Dolly, and a brother, Billy.

Visitation will be held Thursday, September 21, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A Funeral Mass of celebration will take place Friday, September 22 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Father Ray Huntley officiating. Cremation will follow. A luncheon will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall, Plummer Avenue, New Waterford, immediately following the Funeral Mass.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
