BURKE, Mary Doris (nee Brewer)

Mom was born October 6, 1920 and grew up in Ingonish. After a brief illness, she passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on September 24, 2017.

Mom was a devout Catholic and a member of the CWL for over 50 years. In her earlier years she liked to travel to Florida with dad and spend her summers in Ingonish where they owned the Carol Ann Restaurant for 25 years. In recent years mom loved to keep up with current events by reading; also enjoyed knitting and word puzzles, along with visits from family and friends.

She is survived by three daughters, Joyce (Robert) Marra, Carol (Jack) Horsley, Ontario and Anita (Allan Chisholm); three sons, Arnold (Dianne Raoul), James (Doreen) and Allan (Donna), Ingonish, and goddaughte­r, Mary Lou Aucoin. Also survived by 18 grandchild­ren, 28 great grandchild­ren, 2 great great grandchild­ren, and brother-in-law, Pat Burke in Toronto. Mom was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mom was predecease­d by her loving husband, James W. Burke in 1995; son, David in 2007, and daughter-in-law, Jean in 1993.

Viewing for Mrs. Burke will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, September 28 at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 29 at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church with Fr. Bill Burke officiatin­g. Burial in Resurrecti­on Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
