Homecoming for musician
Band coming to Sydney, North Sydney to promote new album
They may be a Halifaxbased band but for Bill Dawe of RaSquatch, some upcoming concerts in Cape Breton will be a homecoming for his skareggae group.
Dawe and his fellow bandmates will be coming to Sydney and North Sydney to release their new album “Survival in a Sea of Mud.”
“I’m really looking forward to the North Sydney show because that’s my hometown,” said Dawe.
It’s the band’s first fulllength release, following the previous self-titled EP “RaSquatch” (2013) and the holiday single “Krampus” (2015).
RaSquatch members write their own material and perform original interpretations of other artists’ material. The new album contains eight originals in the nine-song mix.
“It’s pretty exciting time for us,” said Dawe. “It’s a blend of reggae and ska and funk.”
The release tour is happening to promote the album’s release, with the first show occurring in Antigonish at the legion on Friday.
RaSquatch will perform in Sydney at Governors Pub and Eatery on Saturday with local band Whiskey Jack.
In North Sydney, the band will have a matinee at The Theatre Pub and Grill on Sunday with local band The Joint Highway Project.
These three shows will have an $8 cover charge, but with a purchase of the new record for $20, the cover is $5.
Their RaSquatch image is an extraterrestrial dreadlocked sasquatch, which combines the Canadian wilderness with imagery represented in the styles of reggae, ska and funk.
The band uses multiple vocalists with a full rhythm section and a horn section. Members include Heather Slade (vocals, trombone, trumpet), Tyler Crane (tenor saxophone, soprano saxophone, keyboards), Paul Moore (vocals, guitar, bass), Ian Bryson (guitar, bass, keyboards), Gary Peacock (vocals, drums), and Dawe (vocals, bass, guitar, and trumpet).
