YOUNG, Mary Tena (Joe) Eskasoni

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Tena (Joe) Young. Mary passed away on September 25, 2017, at the age of 80 at the Cape Breton Regional

Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

Born August 19, 1937 in

Chapel Island she was a daughter of the late John and Mary I. (Googoo) Joe.

Mary was a member of the Mi Kmaq choir. Mary worked as a hospital taxi driver for many years. She loved to knit socks and mittens for all the children and was an avid bingo player, enjoying it right up until last week. Mary was a residentia­l School Survivor.

She is survived by her daughters, Ann (Richard) Poulette, Mary Isabel Boulten, Eunice Cabot, Sandra Young, Bernadina Poulette and Danielle Poulette; sons, Walter J. Young, Peter J. Young (Marcia), Fredrick Young, Edward (Beverly) Young, Maynard Young (Jennifer) and Rodney Young; sister, Mary C. Francis; brothers, Benedict Joe and Edward Joe, and many grandchild­ren, great-grandchild­ren, nieces, nephews and godchildre­n.

She was predecease­d by husband, Walter; brothers, John, Noel, Fabian, Wilfred and Levi, and sister, Mary Theresa; grandson, Douglas Young, and foster children, Carl Lafford, Clifton Paul and Gilbert Sark.

Visitation for Tena Young will begin after 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 28 at 8 Walter’s Lane, Eskasoni.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 30 at Holy Family Church with Fr. Martin MacDougall officiatin­g. Burial in the parish cemetery, Eskasoni.
