An initiative aimed at promoting community and organizations events during the fall season is about to begin in Victoria County.

The sixth annual Victoria County Fall Harvest Activefest starts Friday, running until the end of the month across the Municipality of Victoria County.

“In the fall, groups are back and they’re planning and organizing events, so individually we had all the information coming to us, along with finding stuff ourselves,” said Vince Forrestall, physical activity co-ordinator. “We set up a strategy because we’re promoting active and healthy lifestyles and came up with this festival.”

The county-wide event expands the tourism season in Victoria County.

“We’re trying to extend the shorter season past the Celtic Colours International Festival,” said Forrestall. “Hopefully at the end of the day we’re inspiring Victoria County residents and visitors to participate and to enjoy the great nature environment that we have. It’s a win, win in my eyes.”

Among the events taking place is the Ingonish Huckle Buckle Fall Festival, which begins on Sunday. A number of farmers markets across the municipality will also participate in the overall festival and there are hiking opportunities as well.

Forrestall said the feedback from residents has been positive.

“I think they like to be informed as to what’s happening,” he said.

“Through social media and handouts, we let people know what’s happening in Victoria County.”
