The Prosperity Framework’s culture sector team will host the launch of its economic strategy for Cape Breton on Friday at the Cape Breton Centre for Craft and Design loft.

The launch event is scheduled from 4-5 p.m. and will bring together members of Cape Breton’s diverse culture sector — representatives from the Nova Scotia Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage, as well as members of the business community and various local stakeholders. The launch will include entertainment and a presentation about the strategy from co-chairs of the culture sector team, Carol Beaton and Catherine Arseneau.

“The culture sector strategy for Cape Breton is three years of collective hard work, passion and creativity put into one shared vision for the future development of our culture sector,” Keith MacDonald, president and CEO of the Cape Breton Partnership, said in a news release.

“Our goal as an organization is to see that culture continues to thrive as a supporting pillar of the local and provincial economy.”

Momentum in Cape Breton’s creative economy has led to the development of a plan to set priorities and objectives that focus on long-term growth and sustainability. The purpose of the Cape Breton culture sector strategy is to establish a culture sector road map to prosperity that is realistic, practical and achievable, while also aligned with the policy framework of the province’s culture action plan.

“Culture plays a vital role in the development of a strong and sustainable economy,” Beaton said. “Culture not only celebrates the region’s diverse communities, but it is evident in every aspect of our lives. It is our responsibility to develop, promote, preserve and celebrate Cape Breton’s culture and heritage so our island’s identity can continue to grow and prosper.”

The Prosperity Framework is led by the Cape Breton Partnership and has guided economic development activities across Cape Breton for the past five years.
