SAMPSON, Edmund (Ed)

-

Practice love until you remember that you are love; a fitting quote for a beautiful soul. Edmund ‘Ed’ Sampson, our loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend, passed to the next phase of his life’s journey on October 2, 2017, at the house of his daughter, Betty Ann, surrounded by the loving energy of his entire family.

Ed was a role model to all who had the privilege of spending time with him and was the ‘go to’ guy for everything from knitting, to taxes, to DIY construction. He was strong and charismatic, yet gentle and sensitive; supportive, selfless, and stubborn, with a smile that could light up a room and a smirk that could make you laugh. Humorous and intelligent, his expansive vocabulary is something we won’t ever forget. He loved learning and reading and if he didn’t know how to do something he would go to the library and learn to do it. Persistent and compassionate, his love, openness and acceptance were oh so natural. He loved kisses and gave the most comforting, wholeheartedly hugs. He was born on April 11, 1930, to late Marie and Simon Sampson in Sydney. He has done many things in his life, including being General Manager of Rowe Freight Marine until he retired. He was a long standing member of the Knights of Columbus, volunteer for many organizations, avid collector, and natural teacher. Well there’s no manual, but I’m pretty sure if there was, Ed’s life journey thus far would have fulfilled the criteria many times over.

Ed’s family members still continuing with this part of life’s journey include his children, Simon (Debby Sampson), Tom (Jodi Myers), Betty Anne (Meldon Richardson), Alice (Darrell Hardy) and Joanne (Jimmy MacQueen); his grandchildren, Clint, Christopher, Crystal, Jade, Tara, Matt, Katie, Janice, Josh, Tara and Troy; his 11 great grandchildren, and his siblings, Donnie, Ronnie, Alex, Carol, Alice and Betty.

Predeceased by his loving wife, Rita (2016), and siblings, Anna, Dolly and Marie.

Ed’s family would like to extend warmest thanks to Palliative Care and VON nurses, and anyone else who helped to care for our loved one throughout his illness.

Visitation will take place at S.W. Chant and Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney on Thursday, October 5, 2017, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of life with a reception to follow, at Chant’s Funeral Home, on Friday, October 6, 2017 at 4:30 p.m.
