Seed time and harvest

Reaping what you sow part of the plan

The Bible makes a promise that as long as the earth remains there shall be a time to plant seeds and a time to harvest from what we have planted. Genesis 8:22

The farmer who plants corn seeds in the spring is not surprised to reap a corn crop in the fall. In fact, if he plants corn seeds and reaps anything other than corn, he would be shocked.

Galatians 6:7 extends this promise into other area of our lives. “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.”

We now have a promise that sowing and reaping applies to us physically, spiritually, emotionally, and mentally. Even when we don’t like the harvest that we receive, this truth from heaven supersedes our opinion.

The good news is we all have good seeds. The bad news is we all have bad seeds. The good news is we only harvest from the seed we sow. One man I talked with said that he had no money for food. I asked him what happened and he said that he had just recently gotten out of jail. I asked how he ended up in jail. He said he was abused as a child, was always drinking, and the drinking had got him into trouble.

The long ago seeds of abuse were planted in him and were still bringing him a present day harvest. His hurts gave him a reason to drink and his drinking caused him to get into trouble and his reward sent him to jail.

I asked if he saw the connection between his past actions and his present rewards. He avoided my question and said that he was just looking for some money for food until his next cheque came in.

Anyone can be a hobo on the street and anyone can be a successful happy person. Your future success is not based on your past failures. We can all have good reasons or poor excuses but a better life will come to us when we plant better seeds.

If you want a better marriage will more seeds of anger, lies, and jealousy bring you what you seek? If you want a better job will more seeds of complaining, showing up late, spreading rumors, and refusing to work bring you what you seek?

Every good future harvest that’s coming to you will require a good present seed to be planted in the world around you. If you refuse to see the source of your problems as wrong seeds then you’ll never seek good seeds and apply the proper cure.

Thanksgiving is all about being thankful over the bountiful rewards that have come from past planting. I pray that you have an abundant supply of good things flowing into every area of your life. I pray that your old seeds that have given you a bad reward are removed by the power of God and you plant good seeds into your future in Jesus name.

The Bible refers to love, joy, and peace as the fruit of the Spirit. These full grown fruit are the result of us planting their very tiny seeds. Little acts of love from you can make a loving garden around you.

Maybe Thanksgiving is not all that great for you but the good news is you can start today and plant better things for you to harvest tomorrow. Why don’t you find a good church to attend and grow stronger and stronger in the grace and mercies of the Lord? You are well worth the effort, God bless you all.
