It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of our mother, sister, grandmothe­r, greatgrand­mother and great great-grandmothe­r, Rose MacKinnon. Mom passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 surrounded by her loving family at the Northside General Hospital.

Born January 22, 1929, Rose was the daughter of the late Peter and Bridget (Healy) Kyte of Sydney.

Mom had a passion for baking and was known as the Cake Lady, for her beautiful wedding cakes. Mom was a member of the CWL at Holy Family Parish for 50 years.

Mom is survived by son, Glen Steele, and daughters, Marlene (Ralph) Tremblett and Brenda (Darryle) Pyke. Also surviving are daughters-in-law, Ann and Karmie; brothers and sisters, George (Shirley), Veronica (Wilfred), Irene, Pauline, Joey (Johann), Bernie, Patty (Jacquie), Kevin and Leo (Mary Jane). She also leaves behind her grandchild­ren, Sandi, Rosanne (Cory), Crystal (Rob), Carrie (Gary), Danielle (Scott), Shelby, Kendra and Jeff, who she thought of as a grandson; seven greatgrand­children and two greatgreat-grandchild­ren, along with many nieces and nephews, and special friends, Marie and Zelda

Mom was predecease­d by her husband of 34 years, Alex Steele; husband of 13 years, Hector MacKinnon; her son, Harvey; sister, Mary, and infant brother.

Special thanks to Ann Steele, Sandi Steele, Dr. Langley and the staff of 3rd Floor at Northside General Hospital.

No visitation upon request. There will be a church service to honor Mom’s life on Friday, October 13, 2017 at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, with Father James Oliver officiatin­g. A reception will be held in the parish hall, following the service.
