MLA Keith Bain released from hospital
A local MLA is now recovering at home following a medical emergency in Halifax last week.
Victoria-The Lakes MLA Keith Bain was released from the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney on Monday night.
Bain was hospitalized in the provincial capital on Oct. 10. He was moved to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Saturday, and after undergoing medical tests, was released Monday.
The cause of the medical emergency remains unknown.
“It’s Mr. Bain’s personal health information so unfortunately I’m unable to share in detail any of his private health information,” said Angie Zinck, spokesperson for the Progressive Conservative Party caucus.
Zinck said there’s no timeline as to when Bain will return to his normal duties, but she doesn’t expect a “long disruption.”
Bain himself has been active on social media since his release from hospital.
In a Facebook post Monday evening, Bain said “words could never express the deep sense of gratitude I owe to a lot of people in my life today.”
Bain went on to say, “to my caucus colleagues who took such great care of me last Tuesday (Oct. 10), I will be forever indebted. You guys are the best and saved my life.”
Bain, 64, was first elected to the legislature in 2006 and re-elected in 2009 and 2017. In the recent election in May, he regained the seat he lost to Liberal Pam Eyking in 2013.
Zinck said she knows Bain has been checking in with his constituency office, which remains open.
“He’s very modest, but lots of people were checking in with the party, with the leader’s office and with us, just wanting to know how he was doing and sharing their best wishes,” she said.
“We always knew that we loved him, but certainly he is very well respected from all corners of the province, in the party and in his community as well.”
As of Tuesday afternoon, Bain had received more than 250 well-wishers’ comments on his Facebook post, along with more than 500 likes.
In the Facebook post, Bain also praised the doctors, nurses, paramedics and all hospital staff in Halifax and Sydney, noting their professionalism was only outdone by their kindness.
