It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of Neil MacMullin at home in his 88th year on October 15, 2017.

Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late James and Winnifred (MacDonald) MacMullin. Neil retired from Air Canada with over 36 years of service. He was a Life Member of the Kinsmen Club and a member of the Senior Citizens and Pensioners Club of Glace Bay.

Neil enjoyed hunting and fishing and he loved the game of hockey. He refereed for over 20 years in the Maritime Major Hockey League.

“Neil worked the final memorable game in the 1956 series between Cinderella Miners and Sydney Millionair­es. He couldn’t get into the rink because of the crowd and had to climb in through a window. Glace Bay won in overtime 4-2.”

He is survived by his loving wife, Betty (MacDougall) MacMullin; son, Jerry (Carol) and daughter-in-law, Cathy of Alberta. Neil was the grandfathe­r of Kayla (Brett) and Troy, and the proud great grandfathe­r of Leo.

Besides his parents, he was predecease­d by his son, Neil Gregory; sister, Winnie MacDonald, and brothers, Gerard, Leo and Michael.

Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, October 20, 2017 at St. Anne’s Church with Father Norman MacPhee officiatin­g. A reception to follow “back home” in MacKay’s Corner at the T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialist­s, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS, 902-849-4199. Family burial at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
