GARDINER, Marguerite ‘Camille’

-

We, the family of Marguerite ‘Camille’ Gardiner, with profound sadness, announce her passing at Ivany Place, Bedford, NS on October 21, 2017 surrounded by her children. Mom was born in Port Morien, NS to the late Hugh and Annie Mae (Nearing) McDonald.

Mom was a graduate of St. Josephs School of Nursing, Glace Bay and she shared a special lifelong friendship with her nursing classmates. Mom attended and enjoyed each nursing reunion and Christmas get- together and was a fifty year honouree in 2002. Her career began at the Point Edward Sanatorium and later at St. Joseph’s hospital on First South and finally the Pharmacy of St. Joseph’s hospital. She was also a member of the Cape Breton Retired Nurses Association.

Mom will be remembered as a lady of great strength and stature who was a true friend to many. She always had a way of making those whom she encountered feel welcome in her home. She was known to be a “good listener” to those who confided in her, and she never breached their confidence. Mom had a tremendous sense of humor and wit, which she held to the end.

A devout Catholic, Mom was a member of St. Leo’s parish and she served as a lector and altar server until her health declined and she could no longer participate. She faithfully said the rosary and was a dedicated adherent to the prayer of St. Theresa and the Blessed Virgin Mother.

Mom enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing 45’s, a “good game of tarabish”, Jeopardy, and the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Mom was a devoted and committed mother to her children, always working hard to ensure that she could provide us with her love, wisdom and guidance. She is survived by her daughters, Cathy (Gary) Burrows, Hammonds Plains, Joan (Blair) Mikkelsen, Dartmouth and Lynn (Carter) Kosick, Porters Lake; sons, Joey (Diane), Glace Bay and Mark (Patti), Owen Sound; grandchildren, who were so dear to her, Kristene and Dana Mikkelsen, Warren and Eric Kosick. Sisters Audrey Williamson, Dartmouth, Pat Slibar, Dartmouth and Sue Melnick, Glace Bay; a brother, Gus McDonald (Shirley), Halifax; brother-in-law, Don (Alice) Gardiner, Halifax, and many nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by her husband, Mark Gardiner; granddaughter, Ellen Marie Kosick, sisters, Helen MacIntosh and Joan MacGillvary; brothers, Fabian McDonald and Hugh McDonald, and sister-in-law, Elizabeth (Bessie) Gardiner.

As per Mom’s expressed wish cremation has taken place and the remains have been entrusted to J.A. Snows Funeral Home, Clayton Park. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, October 27 at 10 a.m. at St. Anne’s church, Glace Bay, NS with internment in the church cemetery directly following the Funeral Mass. Internment, will be for immediate family only. We request family flowers only. As an expression of sympathy we ask that you perform “An Act of Kindness” or donate to a charity of choice.

Online condolences may be sent to the Family at www.jasnowfuneralhome.com.

The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the staff of Fishermans Landing, Ivany Place, Bedford, NS where she resided for the past three years. The care she received while at Ivany Place was exceptional, and the staff showed how genuinely she was loved by all. To all those who offered comfort and support to Mom while she lived in Glace Bay, Thank You. A special acknowledgement to our cousin Stephanie Morrison.

A Mother’s love is binding Unrelenting in its power The glow from it so blinding Beyond her final hour Even after a Mother’s gone Her love will see you through A love to help you carry on Because that’s what Mother’s do -Author Unknown
