Radiation to begin

Time to get ready

- Kathy Golemiec Kathy’s Diary

Hey there, it’s me, Kathy. How was your week?

My week hasn’t been too bad. It’s not that great but not too bad. My wrist is still the most hurtful part on me. But with the help of a strap it is easier to type. Thank you Kevin.

The radiologist department moved my appointment to tomorrow instead of Friday. That way I will have it done before the weekend. It will only take a half an hour to get the procedure done then they will keep me for a few hours to make sure everything turns out OK.

They have to be careful with swelling and the filling of fluid in the cell since that isn’t good. I know I will be fine - something is telling me it will be so. If not, they will fix it.

I have a lot of pills to take tomorrow before they radiate so that will help too. I have the best team of doctors and nurses you could ask for. But I still need you to keep your fingers and toes crossed.

When it’s all done I will try to talk the editor into putting a picture of my facemask in the paper so you can see what it looks like. It’s as hard as a hockey mask and it keeps my head totally still so there is no way for me to sneeze or anything. They make it so I can’t foul up. Enough of getting my head zapped. Just a few more prayers and a few more good vibes and I will be fine. The steroids have my face puffy again so no puff jokes.

I want to remind you that winter is coming and the temperature is dropping so it’s time to get out the moisturizer. After your daily shower put on lots of body lotion. Pure vitamin E is the cheapest and if you get it in the medicine department and not the cosmetic department it will be half or less the usual price. Those of you who like the pretty smells like I do should ask friends for half bottles

or bottles they were going to throw away because you may like them. And that’s a bigger saving.

I get a lot at the flea market. Vicky tries everything, hates it and then I get it. But you will really notice the difference - no more dry itch.

It stopped raining. I will be going to Truro to spend the night at Janet’s so I am closer to Halifax in the morning. My brother and Wanda are going to pick us up in the morning so I am there on time. It is always good to get to your appointment on time. But that’s not always the way it turns out for me.

Thunder got his last needle this week. He didn’t even cry. He is up to five pounds and he is 10 months old. He is getting better with his training and that’s a good thing. He is such a cute little guy - he struts like he is 200 pounds.

My hands are very numb. I’m sure hoping that will be gone soon. It is very uncomfortable.

I just thought I may get to some yard sales this week. I will be at the flea market this week unless the doctor says no. People are thinking I won’t be there. I’m not a betting person but I’m hoping I will. Dad and Janet will be there. Carol and Betty also help me a lot.

They should have a song out for me. She’s a junk shop junky and she loves the flea market.

It’s had to believe it’s almost the end of the month. I hope every thing is going good in Glace Bay. Geraldine, I haven’t called all week. Bedtime is 9 p.m. - do you believe it? I know I don’t but I will be back on track soon.

I had great news last week. My granddaughter Vada made 100 on her grade 9 pre-calculus. She was given 30 minutes to do the exam and she completed it in 10 minutes, receiving 100 per cent. She was asked to go in the 100 BC provincial challenge.

Vada gets those smarts from me. Her mother says it’s the fish oil she received as a baby but I still say it’s from me. Way to go, Vada. She just turned 14.

My granddaughter Emma is waiting for Halloween. She loves Kinder Surprise Eggs for the surprise inside.

Well, have a great week folks. Yes, it’s time to get out your winter coats and air or wash them.
