Singer Leisa Way (“Anne” of Green Gables for six seasons) leads “Oh, Canada, We Sing For Thee!” It’s the only concert of its kind traveling across Canada celebrating Canadian music during the sesquicentennial year. More than 80 performances have been booked from coast to coast in 2017, across 28 cities, including nine theatres in the Maritimes.

“Oh, Canada” takes you on a musical journey across this country with songs from artists like Gordon Lightfoot, Anne Murray, Celine Dion, Michael Buble, Shania Twain, Stompin’ Tom Connors, Rita MacNeil, Buffy Ste. Marie, Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, The Guess Who, Ian and Sylvia, Neil Young, Don Messer, Bryan Adams, BTO and many more.

The show’s creator, Leisa Way, was the seventh actress to play the coveted role of “Anne” in Anne of Green Gables at the Charlottetown Festival. Since then her career has taken her all over the world, singing for The Royal Family many times, and starring in off-Broadway and Broadway shows. She formed Way-To-Go Productions nine years ago and has enjoyed success with eight concerts she created, including “Sweet Dreams” (Patsy Cline), “Country Jukebox” (duets), “Rhinestone Cowgirl” (Dolly Parton), “Wichita Lineman” (Glenn Campbell), “Across the Pond” (British Invasion) and “You Give Me Fever” (Peggy Lee).

In “Oh, Canada,” Way teams up with her band to sing Rita MacNeil and The Men of the Deeps’ mining anthem, “Working Man.”

The Wayward Wind Band and singers join Way for this production. Fred Smith has performed with Chuck Berry, The Supremes, The Drifters, and The Mamas & The Papas. Bobby Prochaska is a Broadway veteran (Buddy Holly and the original production of Crazy For You (Royal Alex). Nathan Smith is just as at home playing a Don Messer tune as he is playing with the Ottawa Symphony. Musical arranger Bruce Ley was Tommy Hunter’s pianist and is the composer of an Academy Award nominated film plus his band once opened for The Rolling Stones. Drummer Sam Cino is a versatile percussionist who also plays with popular rock group Fiddlestyx.

Oh, Canada, We Sing For Thee! is at the Savoy Theatre on Saturday, November 4 at 7 p.m.
