Alexandra’s Pizza and Family Restaurant in North Sydney has been living up to its name, thanks to the brothers who own the establishment.

Nathan, 21, and Riley MacLeod, 20, have owned their Alexandra’s Pizza location since February 10.

Nathan said the two were able to become owners of their own restaurant because of the popularity of the Alexandra’s Pizza location on Charlotte Street in Sydney.

“It all started with me being a night cashier at Alexandra’s in Sydney. The owner at that location taught me everything – I was actually going to school for welding and fabrication but I took a liking to the business and it kind of spiralled from there,” said Nathan.

After a location in North Sydney was purchased, Nathan and his brother were asked if they were up to the task of managing the restaurant. Nathan said the brothers were both grateful.

“We were appreciative about it. You just have to do what you can with the opportunities you’re given. We had a lot of helpful people that helped us get up and going,” said Nathan.

The brothers have made their restaurant in North Sydney their own with help from family, friends and the community.

The restaurant is unique because it’s not a typical pizza shop. The brothers have made it a family experience, Nathan said they both are constantly improving the menu and embracing a family atmosphere.

“It’s more of a family environment than our other locations, just due to the fact that we have a much larger dining room and our booths. It’s a much cozier environment. We get a lot of feedback from costumers for that,” said Nathan.

The brothers have also made their location more than a pizza shop. They serve all-day breakfast and have been expanding their menu to serve Greek food.

Nathan said that he plans to continue to be a restaurant owner and has plans to expand on what he has started with his brother.

“This feels great and I’m exactly where I want to be and I plan to excel at this. The plan is to have at least five different businesses going by the age of 25 and right now I’m at that pace. I want to stay in Cape Breton instead of leaving like most people my age,” said Nathan.

“I want to help grow the economy and get things back up to normal.”
