BEC Bears to play for NSSAF soccer title in New Waterford

The Breton Education Centre Bears will play for the Nova Scotia School Athletic Federation (NSSAF) Division 2 girls title today in New Waterford.

The host Bears blanked Northeast Kings Education Centre 5-0 at Veterans’ Memorial Turf on Friday, advancing to Saturday’s final.

Emma Gale had two goals, while Abby MacNeil, Caleigh MacPherson and Tessa Dowie added single markers.

Breton Education Centre will play New Germany Rural High School in the championsh­ip game at noon in New Waterford. New Germany advanced to the final with a 4-0 win over Central Kings Rural High School on Friday.

Meanwhile, in Margaree Harbour, Cape Breton Highlands Education Centre/Academy advanced to the championsh­ip game of the NSSAF Division 3 boys provincial­s with a 5-2 win over North Colchester High School on Friday.

Cape Breton Highlands Education Centre/Academy will play Hants North Rural High School in the championsh­ip game today at noon.

The Riverview Rural High School Reds (Girls - Division 1) and Breton Education Centre (Boys – Division 2) were also in provincial action on Friday.

In Antigonish, Halifax West High School defeated Riverview 2-0. The Reds will now play the host Dr. J.H. Gillis Regional High School in the bronze medal game, today at 1 p.m.

Meanwhile, in Bridgetown, host Bridgetown Regional High School blanked Breton Education Centre 3-0. The Bears will now play New Germany Rural High School for the bronze medal today at 10 a.m.
