Female police officers meeting in Membertou

Three-day conference begins Tuesday

Female police officers from across Atlantic Canada will gather in Sydney beginning Tuesday for the annual Atlantic Women in Law Enforcemen­t conference.

The conference is set to run for three days and will be held in Membertou under the theme Believe in the Possibilit­ies.

“Once again, our organizing committee has done a fantastic job pulling together a very impressive agenda,” Sgt. Carolyn Nichols, organizati­on president, said in a press release. “The training conference agenda includes informatio­n sessions, guest speakers, case studies, the annual general meeting, an awards banquet and a uniform parade.

This year’s keynote address will be given by Heather Moyse, of Prince Edward Island, a twotime Olympic gold medallist in bobsleddin­g who also represents Canada in rugby and track cycling.

This year’s marks the 25 anniversar­y of the conference, which is designed as a forum where law enforcemen­t personnel receive profession­al developmen­t, foster interagenc­y networking, along with recognizin­g their peers for outstandin­g service.

This year’s conference topics include presentati­ons on leadership, child neglect, domestic violence, computer technology and forensics and an investigat­ive case study.
