Smoke bomb set off in North Sydney Walmart store

NORTH SYDNEY — Cape Breton Regional Police are investigating after a smoke bomb was set off inside the Walmart store in North Sydney early Monday evening. The military-grade device was reportedly set off between freezer units in the retail grocery section of the store, which was immediately evacuated.

Several first-responders were at the scene including firefighters from the North Sydney Fire Department and members of the Cape Breton Regional Fire Services hazmat team.

The King Street store did not reopen as firefighters used positive-pressure fans and smoke ejectors to ventilate the building overnight.
