Post coverage of celebration ‘heartening’

- Kathleen Bunin North Sydney

It was so heartening to see our local celebration of the 200th anniversary of the birth of Baha’u’llah, the prophet founder of the Baha’i Faith, covered in the Cape Breton Post (“Equality main message of Baha’i,” Oct. 23).

Across Canada, this momentous event has been recognized and celebrated with headlines such as: “Prime Minister (Justin Trudeau) joins Baha’is in celebrating historic bicentenary;” “Baha’is receive message of greetings from National Chief (Perry Bellegarde);” and “Ontario Legislature marks bicentenary of Baha’u’llah’s birth.”

As Baha’is, followers of this faith, we actively work with our friends and neighbours to strengthen communities through the spiritual education

of children, the empowerment of young people, the enrichment of the devotional character of community life and the expansion of capacities for service.

We appreciate your local coverage of this momentous event.

To add some information that may be of interest to your readers:

The Bahá’í Faith is an independent world religion that was founded in 1844 and has been present in Canada since 1898. We might say that the Faith “comes from” Islam in the same way that Christianity “comes from” Judaism. (Christ was born into a Jewish family, Baha’u’llah was born into a Muslim family.)

Canadian Bahá’ís come from diverse backgrounds and are dedicated to the promotion of a global society that reconciles the spiritual and material aspects of life.
