Addicott’s art on display
A visual art exhibit by Sydney artist Gary Addicott opens today at the Cape Breton Centre for Craft & Design in downtown Sydney.
The Vitkar: An Exploration of Norse Shamaism and Magik will include an opening reception from 6-8 p.m. in the Loft.
This exhibition, which features 16 works, explores the ideas and practices of traditional Norse Magik. Primitive art has always been a major influence on Addicott’s work.
Addicott wanted to take the ancient influences and blend that with his own modern influences of urban art, surrealism and try to shed light on the topic.
“I explored these themes by immersing myself into the practices,” said Addicott. “I consider the artwork featured in The Vitkar a visual representation of my journey up until this point.”
Addicott is a visual artist, writer and musician whose work focuses on primitive surrealism. He explores acrylic, spray paint and other media, with his main medium being India ink drawings. He also makes jewelry from found objects and bones.
The Vitkar will be displayed in the centre’s Loft until Jan. 3.
