The open house attracted thousands of visitors who came to check out the temporary encampment, which continues until Nov. 24, that is home to a force of about 500 soldiers, who are in Cape Breton as part of Exercise Nihilo Sapper 2017. The exercise has the engineering troops carrying out a major restoration on the Fortress of Louisbourg and significant repairs, including a roof replacement, to the St. Alphonse Church (Old Stone Church) in Victoria Mines.
