Successful season at Seaview

The Seaview Golf and Country Club has had a successful season thanks to renovations and improvements made to the course.

Upgrades were made possible by $50,500 in funding from the CIP 150 program, as part of Canada 150th anniversary celebrations.

Sydney-Victoria MP Mark Eyking announced the funding for the North Sydney golf course and 13 other organizations in August.

“This funding will go a long way to help these organizations replace, repair and improve their facilities so that they can be enjoyed by many for years to come,” said Eyking in August.

The money was used to make major improvements at Seaview.

Club vice-president Joe Petite said multiple holes and golf cart paths have been drastically improved.

“We’ve paved two cart paths and did drainage on (holes) 1, 4, 16, 13 and some drainage on 12.”

Petite added that the club wouldn’t have been able to do the work without the federal funding.

“People think it’s unbelievable, we haven’t heard a negative comment about any of the work we had done and all of that stuff we wouldn’t be able to afford without this money,” Petite added that playing the course is now a better experience.

“Drainage alone made a big difference in two or three of the holes that were wet all the time and the cart paths don’t wash out anymore.”

Because of the extensive work done throughout the season, golfers weren’t the only ones who benefited, said Petite.

“Membership was very pleased with the work we have done. It’s great, we’ve had golfers coming from Alberta and the (United States) and they can’t believe how the course looks,”

“The grounds crew — it provides more work for them. They worked earlier and later, it meant more work for these guys. Our own crew did 90 per cent of the work other than paving,” said Petite.

Petite said the improvements have impressed golfers from all across Canada.

“Membership was very pleased with the work we have done. It’s great, we’ve had golfers coming from Alberta and the (United States) and they can’t believe how the course looks,” said Petite.

“Some people have been here like 20 years ago and they can’t believe it’s the same golf course.”
