Registration on Saturday
Combined Christmas Giving helps those in need
The last day to register for assistance from Combined Christmas will take place on Saturday.
“Anyone who does need assistance for Christmas should make sure that they come and fill out an application,” said campaign chair Shelly McLellan.
Applications will be accepted at the Salvation Army hall on King Street, New Waterford from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Applicants must have health cards and proof of income.
Two application days were held earlier and so far 131 families, seniors and individuals have asked for assistance.
McLellan said they have received phone calls since those two application days and because of that they expect the numbers to increase significantly.
McLellan said they have received donations for the campaign. The next fundraiser is a telethon set for Nov. 25 at the Rack & Roll Billiards from 1-6 p.m. An auction will follow.
As well McLellan said they have had inquiries about the adopt-a-family program including from people who haven’t been involved before.
“It’s always nice to get new people because once they do it once they tend to keep doing it.”
Last year 28 families were adopted.
Anyone wishing to adopt a family, donate to the telethon or help in other ways, can contact McLellan at 902-862-6142.
Monetary donations can be mailed to Combined Christmas Giving, PO Box 7, New Waterford, N.S., B1H 4E9.
