Input sought on inclusive education

-

The province’s Commission on Inclusive Education has released details on how Nova Scotians can share their input.

The public engagement phase starts Tuesday, with public workshops, an online survey and other ways for people to share their stories.

“We know there are lots of families, teachers, students and others who have been looking forward to this phase of our work,” Sarah Shea, chair of the commission, said in a news release. “We are pleased to launch the public engagement with numerous ways for people to participate.”

Nova Scotians can participate by filling in an online survey until Dec. 15. They can also register for one of the public workshops. Space is limited, so pre-registration is requested. A workshop will be held in Sydney at the Joan Harriss Cruise Pavilion on Thursday from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. They can also share stories by preparing a short video, of two to three minutes or writing their vision of a new model of inclusive education to help the commission understand what is working, what is not, and what is possible.

A multi-site francophone session, via videoconference, is planned for Nov. 29, at 6:30 p.m. in partnership with Conseil scolaire acadien provincial.

Details on how to participate will be posted on the commission’s website.

“The input gathered through all forms of public engagement will guide all aspects of this important work on behalf of the children and youth of Nova Scotia,” Shea said. “Together we will create a new provincial vision and model for inclusive education.”
